It’s crazy how time flies. The release of Bomfunk MC’s Freestyler celebrates its 20th birthday. For 90s kids, it might seem that it was only yesterday when we all were trying to perform the first breakdance elements.

You may think by their style that the first Bomfunk MC’s works have hip-hop orientation. Yes, but it’s not 100% hip-hop, more like the mix of such styles as breakbeat, electronica and hip-hop. On the other hand, at first look Freestyler is a hip-hop composition because of the present rapping.

The new remake of Freestyler brings sweet memories to all the group lovers. Even the old group members are present. The new video is filmed at Vukov Spomenik railway station which is located in Belgrade, Serbia. As opposed to the 2019 version the original video takes its place at Hakaniemi metro station in Helsinki, Finland.

The purpose of reincarnating the Bomfunk MC’s best track is to promote a new mobile phone service by the Belgium company called Telnet.

Who created Freestyler by Bomfunk MC’s?

The original group came from Finland and consisted of Raymond “B.O. Dubb” Ebanks, Jaakko “JS16” Salovaara and Ismo “DJ Gismo” Lappalainen. The group’s cast changed through the years.

Freestyler was produced by JS16 (Jaakko Salovaara). He also created the sound for the whole “In Stereo” album in his JS16 studio in Turku, Finland.

Moreover, JS16 is known for working with the famous Finnish producer Darude for participation in “Sandstorm” and “Feel the Beat”.

Freestyler’s rapping part was written and performed by Raymond Ebanks (aka B.O.W. or B.O. Dubb). It’s a pity, but he left the group in 2005. Nowadays he is not active.

Freestyler is written in 163.84 BPM and E minor harmony.

The Bomfunk MC’s greatest hit was released as a single in Finland in October 1999 and in February 2000 worldwide. It became number 1 hit in eleven countries during the first half of 2000.

The Original Bomfunk MC’s “Freestyler” Official Video

The main role is played by the actor and nowadays model Marlo Snellman. He was hired for this video through his mother, Finnish modelling magnate Laila Snellman. We think that the actor play is top level and can not be beaten by the new version. On the other hand, the legacy of this track can not be destroyed and only expands through all the new mentions.
