The history behind gay-porn and the reason why Rejects closed and went out of business
From Charles Dunkle’s words from bladeordie podcast 97 this was the moment, when Rejects Magazine became legit and started to become popular. The They guys still had to sleep on the floor but decided to print about 2000 copies of the Rejects Mag 4, which had got the main profile of Brian Shima. They started to distribute their DVDs through American store network called Barnes & Noble. Can you imagine how they have been caught by surprise when they have discovered from TV that their Barnes & Nobles have been sued for distributing gay-porn, which has been burned on the DVDs with the Rejects Magazine?
There were 200 DVDs of 2000 copies which had the adult film for the homosexualists in it. Only one thing varied these gay-copies. On the reflective backside of the DVD, it was written Hard Hat Pigs.
Charles thinks that it was overall some kind of conspiracy against rollerblading. The point is that the DVDs were outsourced to another company which printed the graphics on DVDs. He guesses that some skateboarder working in the company has changed 200 copies with hardcore gay-porn. Maybe it was a mixup.
As a result, guys had to open each DVD and investigate the backside for the Hard Hat Pigs caption. They also had to call all the skateshops and warn them about the problem. They had also to hire the lawyer. This all lead to big financial losses. After the Reject Issue 7 there was a common decision to close the magazine.
